Once again, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»has earned the status of being the "rattiest" city in B.C. and the second-rattiest in the nation.
The put Toronto in the top spot again for 2024, followed by Vancouver.
Three other B.C. cities follow, with Kelowna, Burnaby, and Victoria rounding out the top five.
The rankings, which are presented by pest control company Orkin, are based on the number of commercial and residential rodent (meaning rat and mice) treatments the business carried out from August 1, 2023, through July 31, 2024.
Vancouver's steady ranking near the top of the list is likely no surprise to anyone, including local pest control professionals.
Mike Londry, owner of Westside Pest Control, told V.I.A. earlier this month that rat populations have increased lately, and continue to rise with urbanization. In some instances, this means rats feel less concerned about humans near them.
"We're seeing an increase in rat and mice populations across the board," the 17-year pest control veteran said.
Londry estimates rat populations in the region have roughly doubled over the last 20 years thanks to ever-abundant food sources, a mild climate, and proximity to Vancouver's port.
