Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­apartment fire sends eight people to hospital, displaces nearly 40

Four people were in critical condition after the fire.

Residents were evacuated, with some sent to the hospital after a fire at a Kitsilano apartment building on Aug. 14.

Eight people were sent to hospital and 38 have been displaced by a fire at a Kitsilano apartment building.

The fire occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 1987 W 7th Ave., a nearly 50-year-old apartment building with 38 units.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Fire Rescue Services were on the scene quickly and doused the flames, but the building was heavily damaged and several people were injured.

"Paramedics provided emergency treatment to eight patients," states the BC Emergency Health Services on Twitter. "Four were transported to hospital in critical condition, four in stable condition."

By 8 a.m., the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Emergency Management Agency (VEMA) had registered 20 of at least 38 displaced residents, according to the city.

"VEMA continues to work with the property owner, BC Housing, to contact remaining residents and assess their needs," states the city.

Investigators are currently looking into the scene.
