It turns out people really didn't want to do with parking lots on Black Friday.
On Nov. 26 TransLink recorded 571,000 trips on the transit system. While that's not an all-time record, it is a record for most trips on a single day since March 2020, when COVID-19 restrictions began in earnest in Vancouver.
Previously Halloween, which was a Sunday, held that record.
"Ridership is at 60% of pre-COVID levels, but this shows when people have somewhere to go, whether it’s deal hunting at the mall or trick-or-treating, they choose transit," says Translink in a press release.
It may also show people prefer the Skytrain to parking meters and lots.
Lately, coronavirus numbers have been trending down in B.C., though the Omicron variant has created some concern.
