Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists should expect to encounter delays and detours on Vancouver's Cambie Street Bridge starting this week (mid-November 2024) and ongoing through spring 2025.
The City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»announced Tuesday (Nov. 19) details regarding construction work on the bridge deck and how it will impact traffic of all kinds using the busy crossing.
"People are encouraged to plan ahead, expect delays, and use alternate routes where possible," cautions the City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»in a press release.
To accommodate the work, the bridge will have to close some lanes at varying times, however, there will always be two-way traffic in place, "with at least one lane always open in each direction," says the City.
Pedestrians and those on wheels can continue to use the bridge, though bike lanes and sidewalks on one side of the bridge will need to be closed at times. Detour signage will be in place for guidance.
As the work on the Granville Connector remains ongoing, the City pledges to coordinate traffic measures between the two major projects in order to keep impacts at a minimum.
"Bridges are critical infrastructure that facilitate the movement of people and goods in and around Vancouver. Maintaining them regularly is important," points out the City.
