Teenager has Mercedes impounded after clocking in at twice the speed limit

A young Delta driver has had his luxury ride impounded and is facing a speeding ticket worth almost $500 after being clocked by West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­police zooming at 175 kilometres per hour in a 90 km/h highway zone.

A police officer spotted a Mercedes C250 racing by at almost twice the posted speed limit near the Cypress Bowl exit of Highway 1 shortly after midnight Sept. 29, said Const. Jeff Wood, spokesman for the West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Police Department.

The 19-year-old driver was handed a $483 ticket for excessive speeding and had his car impounded for seven days.

The man is the latest of several drivers nabbed with lead foots in the municipality.

Another 18-year-old from Delta was recently caught going 160 km/h on the Upper Levels Highway in a family member’s Hyundai Elantra. That car was also impounded.

A 22-year-old West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Ferrari driver caught doing 210 km/h on the Lions Gate Bridge also had his car impounded and is due in court next month.

More than 145 speeders have had their rides impounded by police in West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­this year so far.
