Students and staff were evacuated from a building on the UBC campus on Monday, Oct. 28, after reports someone had a gun.
However, the weapon in question turned out to be a water gun.
The UBC RCMP detachment arrested one youth after reports of an armed man in the AMS Nest (the student union building) this morning.
"RCMP have confirmed the item seen was a water gun," UBC spokesperson Matthew Ramsey tells V.I.A. "The building is safe and all normal operations have resumed with no threat to the university,"
Ramsey confirms the person arrested was under the age of 18.
In an email to V.I.A. the UBC RCMP states "no one was ever in any danger."
"The youth, who was not of university age, was safely returned to their parent. No charges are anticipated," writes Staff Sgt. Kris Clark.
