A fire that broke out Saturday morning inside a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Walmart store has been deemed "suspicious" and remains under investigation, according to the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department.

The VPD assisted Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fire Rescue Services with its response to the in-store blaze, which happened just before 10 a.m. July 27 at the Walmart Supercentre at 3585 Grandview Hwy near Boundary Road in East Vancouver.

Police say the cause of the fire is not known but "investigators believe it may have been intentionally set."

“We urge anyone who witnessed anything unusual in the store around the time of the fire to contact investigators immediately,” said VPD Constable Tania Visintin in a media release issued Sunday.

“Detectives from VPD’s Major Crime Section [are] working together with Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fire investigators to determine what circumstances led up to the fire.”

Estimates put the damage in the millions.

Walmart has been closed since the incident on Saturday, and the VPD said the store will "remain closed until further notice." On Monday morning, Google indicates the store is "temporarily closed" and a call to the store during regular business hours was not picked up.

Anyone with information about the fire inside the Grandview Walmart is asked to call VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541.
