A 53-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly shoving another man, 61, down a flight of stairs a the Granville SkyTrian Station.
Police have arrested but not charged the man for an incident that occurred around 5:30 p.m. March 1.
It's believed the victim has a brief verbal confrontation with the suspect and another man before the incident near the station's entrance. The victim then left and headed inside the station, and the suspect followed him inside.
Once indoors the suspect allegedly shoved the victim down the stairs. After the victim fell to the bottom of the stairs the suspect allegedly kicked him before fleeing the scene.
Video was captured of the incident as the two men headed indoors.
“More than 80,000 people viewed and shared this video on social media in the first 24 hours after it was released by Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police on Friday,” says Cost. Tania Visintin in a press release. “Late Saturday afternoon, an astute citizen who had seen the video on Instagram spotted the suspect walking near Granville and Georgia streets, and called 9-1-1."
Police are thanking the public for their help.
“We had no doubt help from the public would be instrumental in solving this case, as it has with so many other high profile attacks in the downtown core,” adds Visintin. “We understand how shocking this video was for some, and we are extremely grateful for the amount of views and shares this video had. Those shares on social media helped us make another quick arrest in an unsolved attack.”
The investigation into the attack is ongoing as police collect more evidence before presenting the case to crown prosecutors.
