A man allegedly assaulted a woman in an "unprovoked attack" in Downtown Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
A 35-year-old woman was walking near Canada Place's cruise ship terminal just before 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13 when a stranger allegedly assaulted her.
The woman, who is a tourist, was "repeatedly punched and kicked in the face, and sustained multiple injuries that required medical attention," according to a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department (VPD) release.
Several witnesses called 911 and VPD patrol officers obtained video of the suspect from the crime scene.
“The suspect and victim did not know each other and had no prior interaction before the assault occurred,” says Sgt. Steve Addison.
“We’re thankful to the bystanders who called police so our officers could respond immediately and collect valuable evidence that led to the quick arrest of the suspect.”
The suspect was arrested at a residential building near East Pender and Columbia streets and taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. by a VPD canine officer and police service dog.
The BC Prosecution Service has charged 40-year-old Massimo Rosario Falvo with one count of aggravated assault. He remains in custody.
