The Richmond RCMP caught 150 speeding drivers during a traffic enforcement project that took place from Nov. 17 to 30.

Richmond’s Road Safety Unit was at Sidaway Road corridor - a two-lane road often used by motorists during heavy traffic - for the week after multiple requests were received about speeding in the area.

In a news release issued Dec. 18, Richmond RCMP stated that over 200 vehicles were checked during morning and afternoon rush hours where 150 of the 200 vehicles were caught for going over the speed limit.

Ten vehicles were impounded for excessive speeding with one vehicle going as fast as 135 km/h in the 50 km/h zone.

“The Richmond RCMP would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers to slow down,” said Sgt. Nigel Pronger of the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit.

“Furthermore, the Road Safety Unit sets up targeted enforcement in similar areas based on requests received from the public, to ensure that speed limits are obeyed in other areas as well.”
