Richmond RCMP caught a shoplifter with 11 boxes of ice cream in a one-day sweep targeting retail theft.
Without any means of refrigeration, it could have been a “messy ordeal,” said RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Dennis Hwang.
On May 16, Richmond RCMP arrested eight people, six who were from Richmond and two from Vancouver, for allegedly shoplifting.
One person had three outstanding warrants.
Police recovered a variety of items in addition to the ice cream, including Tylenol, clothing and alcohol.
One person was arrested twice in the span of 20 minutes at two different retailers, Hwang explained.
“That is a definitely a repeat customer in our line of work,” he added.
The targeted initiative was done by the Richmond RCMP Property Crime Unit which partnered with retailers and theft-prevention officers in various locations throughout Richmond.
