On Jan. 7 Langley RCMP was called to an intersection in Langley where they found the 18-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds which he later died from.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) and the Langley RCMP are investigating a shooting in the Langley Walnut Grove area.

On Friday (Jan. 7) around 1:30 p.m., Langley RCMP responded to the intersection of 202 Street and 88 Avenue for multiple calls of assistance. First responders arrived and found 18-year-old Julian Moya Cardenas suffering from gunshot wounds. Cardenas, a Langley native, later succumbed to his injuries.

Cardenas was known to police and the initial belief shared by IHIT in a recent news release is that this shooting was targeted. Homicide investigators are looking to speak with anyone who knew of Cardenas’ activities and associates.

A bystander was hit during the shooting and was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injures. They have been identified but their name is not being released.

“Our thoughts go out to the families of those impacted by this incident,” said Sergeant David Lee of IHIT. “The shooting was reckless and a complete disregard for the safety of the community.”

Homicide investigators are constructing a timeline of events and canvassing for witnesses, cellphone video, and dash-cam footage. Anyone with information or footage is being asked to contact IHIT.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected].
