A 74-year-old man has died after drowning at Reed Point Marina in Port Moody Wednesday.

The man, who had arrived early to get his boat ready for a fishing trip with some friends, slipped on his boat and fell into the water, according to a spokesperson for the Port Moody Police Department.

“Evidence observed at the scene indicated that the male had slipped on an algae covered deck surface, striking his head on the dock as he fell into the water,” wrote PMPD spokesperson Sgt. Ian Morrison.

Fire and ambulance services were dispatched to the scene along with local police, but attempts to revive the Burnaby man were unsuccessful, according to a tweet from the PMPD.

“Our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends,” wrote the PMPD in its tweet.
