With thousands of people jogging around the city this weekend as part of the massive Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Sun Run, it's going to affect traffic and public transit.
On Sunday, April 16 the closure of the Burrard Bridge for a couple of hours, ramped up transit service (compared to usual Sundays), and 18 bands playing along the route are among a few of the things people near the race will probably notice.
Transit
The good news is that with the race bringing in thousands of runners and walkers, there's going to be extra transit.
"We’re adding extra transit service on Sunday, April 16! Don’t forget, you only need a to travel across all zones on Sundays and every day," says TransLink in a press release.
For SkyTrain riders, the Canada Line will start at 5 a.m. and have increased capacity from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The other lines will open at 6:30 a.m. with increased capacity.
The SeaBus will also be starting earlier than usual, with its first trip from North Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to regular Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»at 7:02 a.m. The reverse trip will first depart Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»at 7:16 a.m.
The WestCoast Express will also have a special train due to the run, with a trip leaving from Mission City Station at 7 a.m. and a return journey at 1 p.m.
Along with the increased trips, there will be some detours due to the runs route.
The affected routes are: 2, 5, 6, 15, 50, 84, 240, 246, 257, N19, and N24. For details, .
Road closures
The 10k, and the 2.5 mini run have two different routes.
The main run, with the first runners starting at 9 a.m., starts near Thurlow and West Georgia, with runners heading down Georgia to Denman, before heading down Denman, over to the Burrard Bridge, into Kitsilano and through Fairview along West 4th and West 6th avenues, generally, before heading down Quebec Street and Pacific Boulevard to BC Place.
Most street closures are between 7 a.m. and noon. All roads should reopen by 1:30 a.m.
The mini-run, which starts at 8 a.m., is kept to a small loop mostly involving Quebec Street and Pacific Boulevard near BC Place.
