Richmond RCMP is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect involved in an alleged assault.
Police officers responded to a call regarding an alleged "unprovoked stranger assault" in the 6500 block of No. 3 Rd., near CF Richmond Centre, shortly after 12 p.m. on July 2.
The victim told police he was walking in the area when he was allegedly punched in the face by an unknown man, said Richmond RCMP in a media statement.
He was treated for minor physical injuries on scene.
In a subsequent investigation, the Richmond RCMP bike unit found the suspect had entered CF Richmond Centre around 11:20 a.m. left around 11:57 a.m. and allegedly committed the assault shortly after.
The suspect is described as a Black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall with a heavy build.
He was wearing a grey long sleep top, black pants, white and blue Jordan 11 runners, and was carrying a white backpack.
"This is a busy time of day in the downtown core of Richmond so we believe there are people out there who witnessed this assault or the events leading up to it," said Cpl. Adriana O’Malley, Richmond RCMP Media Relations Officer.
"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area to contact us."
