Homophobic vandal defaces new Richmond rainbow crosswalk, again

The crosswalk outside Palmer secondary has been vandalized at least four times within one week.

The new rainbow crosswalk outside Palmer secondary was defaced again over the B.C. Day long weekend.

A new rainbow crosswalk outside Palmer secondary was defaced once again with homophobic slurs as Richmond celebrates Pride Week and the B.C. Day long weekend.

The crosswalk, installed earlier this week on Tuesday, Aug. 1, has been hit at least four times.

When a Richmond News reporter visited the scene on Sunday night, hateful messages in black paint could be seen on the newly repainted crosswalk.

School district staff later attended the scene the next day to remove the graffiti.

The News  that Richmond School District arranged for additional security to patrol the area. The school district is also "maintaining close cooperation with law enforcement to aid in their efforts," said spokesperson David Sadler.

"When incidents of this nature are brought to the district’s attention, they are addressed immediately in accordance with the district code of conduct," he added.

Richmond RCMP has yet to identify a suspect, but was in contact with the school district to provide supports.
