Because of the "softening of Vancouver’s condominium market" two new applications have been submitted for properties near the Burrard Street Bridge.
The two towers, which would rise on either side of Harwood Street at Thurlow Street, would bring 575 new units to the city's rental market, according to the proposal from Bosa4Rent Homes, which is working with Henriquez Partners Architects. Currently, there are four buildings there, with 98 housing units.
The new buildings will have a "tower in the park" feel to them.
"The design and expressions of the towers were inspired by the West End character, the tree-lined streets and the many public and private open spaces," states the application's authors.
That means ground-level gardens, canopy level planning and rooftop gardens.
"The rooftop landscaping is designed to create inviting outdoor spaces that include outdoor BBQ areas, informal seating and dining spaces, and urban agriculture<' states the report.
In the proposal Bosa4Rent notes the two towers would have 113 below-market value rentals, which will be based on Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation rates. The remaining 462 units will be rented at market value.
The previous application, which was approved in August 2017, proposed two similar towers but with fewer units with a significant percentage sold as condominiums.
The city is about the new proposal.
