Heavy rains and strong winds are set to pound Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and the rest of the Lower Mainland Friday, Dec. 10 and into Saturday.

The Lower Mainland is set to be soaked and whipped about once again thanks to a new round of heavy rain and strong winds Friday.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement in effect Dec. 10 through 11 for the region, with the rain set to arrive Friday morning and hang on into Saturday.

The Fraser Valley could see rains last even longer into Saturday than in the Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»area.

A total rainfall amount of 30 to 50 mm is expected, with winds of 60 km/h gusting 80 km/h.

Canada's weather agency says the storm is the result of an intense Pacific frontal system.

"it’s going to be another raw, stormy weekend" along the wet West Coast, cautioning to expect "hefty snowfall totals to higher elevations in the mountains, and blustery winds across the board" along with the heavy rains at lower elevations.

"Watch out for travel impacts, potential power outages, and ponding on roadways," adds the forecaster.

Looking ahead to the end of the weekend and into next week, The Weather Network notes: "The heaviest precipitation will exit B.C. by Sunday, leaving behind showers and chilly weather in its wake."

We can expect "below-seasonal temperatures and occasional bouts of showers" as the new week kicks off, with things settling later in the week.

It looks like our next chance of snow in Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»comes next Tuesday and Wednesday nights - though those chances call for possible rain, as well.
