'Random and unprovoked': Tourist stabbed by stranger in downtown Vancouver

Police are seeking a suspect after a tourist from New Zealand was stabbed by a stranger in Vancouver's downtown.

A 28-year-old man from New Zealand is recovering after being stabbed by a stranger in the Granville Entertainment District.

The tourist was near the corner of Nelson and Granville streets around 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, when he was stabbed from behind by a stranger, according to the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­Police Department (VPD).

He was able to make his way to the hospital himself where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are now looking for the public's help in finding the suspect.

“From what we know so far, this attack appears to be completely random and unprovoked,” says Const. Tania Visintin in a press release.

“Investigators are looking for a man about 5’5” tall, with a medium complexion. He was wearing a white t-shirt, dark jeans, and a blue baseball cap.”
