A rainfall warning is still in effect for Metro Vanouver as an intense frontal system continues to hit the south coast.
Environment Canada made the announcement early in the morning on Thursday, Jan. 23, noting that rain, at times heavy, is expected. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue through the morning, which may cause localized flooding.
East Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Island near Bowser is expected to receive an additional 25 mm before the rain eases this morning. However, Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»is expected to receive the lion's share of precipitation today.
The Howe Sound, the North Shore, and the northeast and central Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»regions are expected to receive an additional 30 - 40 mm. Following this, the heavy rain is expected to ease this afternoon.
Rainfall warning in effect for:
- Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»- central including the City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Burnaby and New Westminster
- Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»- North Shore including West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and North Vancouver
- Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»- northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
After Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»received a staggering 34 cm of snowfall in five days last week, this week's forecast is calling for seven straight days of rainfall.
