People in Vancouver's northeast neighbourhoods have a new option for their urgent care needs.

The province opened the Northeast Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) recently.

“The centre will help connect more people with the health care they need, when they need it," says Minister of Health Adrian Dix. "Area residents who currently lack a primary care provider will benefit from increased access to same-day appointments for urgent needs and ongoing primary care.”

Urgent care is for people who need care within the next 12 to 24 hours but don't require an emergency department.

Staff include family doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses and social workers.

The new centre is open for urgent care from Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and statutory holidays.

The Northeast UPCC isn't quite fully operational; once it is primary care will also be offered and they'll also connect people with complex needs with a primary care provider, like a family doctor.

“Thousands of people in northeast Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»do not have a family doctor and they often struggle to get timely access to the health-care services they need,” says Niki Sharma, MLA for Vancouver-Hastings, in the release.

This is the fourth UPCC opened up in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»since 2018. It's located at 102-2788 East Hastings St. near the PNE.
