A man suspected of assaulting two shopkeepers last week has been charged.
Wayne Ronald Northey is facing an assault charge and an assault causing bodily harm charge after allegedly attacking an older married couple in their Chinatown shop.
The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 14, according to the VPD.
"The victims – a married couple in their 70s – were working Thursday morning in their store when the suspect entered and began causing a disturbance," state police in a media release. "When they asked the suspect to leave, the victims were assaulted, suffering various injuries," allege authorities.
A VPD representative tells V.I.A. the couple has some physical injuries as a result of the assault, but are expected to recover.
The suspect fled the scene, but police were able to get images of the attacker from a security camera. On Saturday, Sept. 16, they arrested Northey near the intersection of East Pender and Main streets.
Northey has been convicted numerous times over the years around B.C. including for multiple times each for uttering threats, theft under $5,000, and assault.
