Two people have been arrested and multiple charges involving weapons are being recommended after an early-morning fight in the lower part of Port Moody’s Heritage Woods neighbourhood last Saturday, Dec. 9.
According to a news release, officers from Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) were called to a home just after 6 a.m. for a report of a possible fight between multiple people.
When they arrived, they were met by a man in possession of a knife and bear spray. He fled, but was stopped by police after a brief foot chase and the use of a taser.
At the same time, another officer was confronted by a woman holding a large knife. She was taken into custody.
"This was a chaotic scene and thankfully no one was seriously injured," said PMPD spokesperson Const. Sam Zacharias.
Officers determined both people were under the influence of recreational drugs and were hallucinating that someone was going to harm them with a firearm.
They were transported to hospital and weapon-related charges are being recommended. Their weapons, including several large knives, have been seized as part of the investigation.
Zacharias said police believe the incident was isolated and there's no further risk to the public.
