Kitsilano will be without a popular brunch spot for an uncertain amount of time.
, at 3189 West Broadway, was damaged by a fire Sunday night (Feb. 12). According to the diner's website it closes at 8 p.m. on Sundays; at around 10 p.m. Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fire Rescue Service (VFRS) crews were called to the blaze.
"Smoke was exiting the roof area upon the arrival of crews," writes spokesperson Capt. Matthew Trudeau in an email to V.I.A. "Fourteen fire trucks were on scene and able to contain the fire from further damaging to the building."
However, the fire has meant the restaurant has to shut down for a while, according to management. How long, though, isn't clear.
"As a small business, these kinds of situations hurt a lot, and we appreciate the help and support of our community as we figure out the next steps to rebuilding," state operators in an Instagram post.
No injuries were reported in the fire, according to Trudeau. The fire department is still investigating the cause.
The original Gastown diner will remain open, notes Deacon's Corner, which is named after and based on a . The Kitsilano location opened in 2015 and was visited by the show .
