After more than a decade on Main Street, is shutting its doors this week.
The independent home goods shop opened in 2012 at 4663 Main St., selling everything from felted birds to bedding to birthday cards.
On Jan. 25, owners Amy Russell and Jennifer Kiel announced on social media the store would be closing.
"It has been an overwhelming week of support and emotions since we made our ," the owners tell Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» in an email. "We did not anticipate the reaction we received from our community of friends, collaborators, and loyal customers."
While the reaction wasn't anticipated, they say one of the goals for the store was to connect with people.
"We wanted to create community on Main Street and we feel that we accomplished it," they write.
"Getting to know our customers and shop neighbours over the years was a highlight for us and we created so many cherished memories," they add.
A variety of factors are forcing them to close the brick-and-mortar location, mostly financial.
"The rising costs of overhead, operations, and inventory combined with the current economic situation we are all facing (rent, interest rates, food prices, etc) are also contributing factors," they write.
They've explored other options, including collaborations and new spaces, but decided closing the store was the best option right now. That said, this may not be the end for the brand; Russell and Kiel view this as a pause for Nineteen Ten.
"We do not have any immediate announcements to make on future plans but we will be sharing to Instagram and with our newsletter subscribers once we do," they write.
Nineteen Ten's last day of business will be Feb. 9, 2024 from noon to 4 p.m. Follow on Instagram.
