Poll: What do Vancouverites think of other drivers in the city?

Are you a better or worse than average driver?

Driving in Vancouver, or any city for that matter, is often mixed with moments of frustration, road rage, and surprise.

So Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» asked readers to weigh in on how they viewed the overall experience of driving— specifically, how other drivers do.

It seems drivers don't particularly impress each other on the roadways. Under 3 per cent of locals (and the same for the overall poll) thought drivers here were pretty good. However, in second place (barely) was the option for pretty good, with a few terrible ones.

This means that nearly a quarter of V.I.A.'s readers think most drivers in the city are generally good.

The most popular choice by far was the most average (average with lots of lowlights), which scored over a third of the vote.

The two most negative choices were the third and fourth most popular opinions, suggesting just under 40 per cent of drivers on the road think everything is bad or worse than bad on Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»roads.

Oddly, people from outside the city were more likely to choose the more extreme options ('good' or 'worse than bad') while locals were a little more middle of the road with average or bad.

V.I.A. polled 700 readers and asked the question: What do you think of other drivers in Vancouver?

The poll ran from 1/15/2023 to 1/22/2023. Of the 700 votes, we can determine that 414 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Overall pretty good 2.90 % local, 2.86 % total
Mostly good with a few terrible ones 22.22 % local, 23.29 % total
Average with lots of lowlights 36.47 % local, 35.14 % total
Bad across the board 21.50 % local, 20.43 % total
Worse than bad 16.91 % local, 18.29 % total
  Local   Total

Results are based on an online study of adult Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» readers that are located in Vancouver. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 3.7%, 19 times out of 20.
