Second place may not be what you expected.

What's the most enjoyable social media app in Vancouver?

Social media platforms are spending a lot of time in the spotlight these days, from TikTok's privacy concerns to Meta's metaverse crash to Twitter's...well, everything.

The platforms can be described very differently from different perspectives, from toxic gathering places inspiring real-world violence to megaphones for causes needing attention to new revenue sources for break-out businesses.

So V.I.A. polled our readers and asked the question: What social media platform do you enjoy the most?

Enjoy is doing some heavy lifting there.

We asked about six major platforms (perhaps Reddit should have been in there, in hindsight).

It appears Facebook still reigns supreme, but only just barely, with a surprising second place only a couple of votes behind .

Both YouTube and Facebook finished significantly ahead of the others, with about 30 per cent of the vote each.

The third place was Instagram, and what the numbers show is that locally (inside Vancouver) Instagram is doing better than outside. While still behind Facebook and YouTube, it's a lot closer when looking at the local numbers.

Lagging behind is an odd pair: one of the older and one of the younger platforms. Twitter and TikTok are both in the mid-single digits, Twitter is fourth with around 7 per cent, and TikTok around 5 per cent.

Snapchat, it seems, is not doing well, with around 1 per cent saying they enjoy it the most.

Finishing right in the middle of everything was the "something else" crowd, with around 11 per cent. It seems more than 1-in-10 people have other platforms they like.

FYI, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» is on social media! Perhaps that's not shocking, but maybe it'd bump up TikTok's numbers if locals knew of there. But here's our , and accounts as well.

The poll ran from 4/9/2023 to 4/15/2023. Of the 777 votes, we can determine that 404 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Twitter 7.18 % local, 7.08 % total
Facebook 28.22 % local, 30.12 % total
Instagram 20.05 % local, 17.25 % total
TikTok 4.70 % local, 5.66 % total
YouTube 27.48 % local, 28.19 % total
Snapchat 0.99 % local, 1.16 % total
Something else 11.39 % local, 10.55 % total
