With Vancouver radio going through some big shakeups, we asked locals what they listen to on the radio, and if they listen to the radio at all.
38 per cent of Vancouverites and more than 35 per cent of poll takers said that they listen to all sorts of radio.
However, between music and chit-chat, around 18 per cent of locals prefer simply music while around 12 per cent prefer tuning into conversations. A little over 30 per cent of local poll takers don't listen to the radio at all.
According to a on the average daily radio listeners in Vancouver, more and more people are tuning into the radio since 2014. After a significant drop in listeners in 2015 from 2.51 million at the end May to 2.27 million over the summer (between June and August), the numbers have been steadily increasing over the years.
As of last year, between May 31 and August 29 in 2021, Vancouver's daily radio audience is almost at its 2015 numbers, with an average of 2.47 million listeners per day. A similar date range in 2019 showed an average of 2.35 million listeners, marking a significant increase.
As more Vancouverites turn up the radio, more changes are happening on the airwaves. Local listeners should keep an ear out for some and another that is leaving the traditional FM club.
