After several high-profile acts of violence on Metro Vancouver's bus system and SkyTrains, people are not feeling safe on the city's transit.
Across the system, there have been several attacks, including the fatal stabbing of Ethan Bespflug in Surrey, along with other violent incidents reported by police and media. The situation has led to concerns about safety on the system, raised by both bus drivers (in West Vancouver) and the public in general (with a petition).
In a V.I.A. poll that just wrapped up, it seems those concerns are common both inside and outside the city.
Those outside the city appear to be slightly more concerned than those inside, as two-thirds of the total voters stated they don't feel safe on the city's transit system, while those inside the city were more likely to feel safe by about 3 per cent.
However, in both cases a significant majority say they feel unsafe taking public transit.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» polled 815 readers and asked the question: Do you feel safe on Metro Vancouver's transit system?
The poll ran from 4/17/2023 to 4/22/2023. Of the 815 votes, we can determine that 402 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:
