Poll: Here's who Vancouverites want to win the American presidential race

Vice President Kamala Harris is doing much better than President Joe Biden was.

The American presidential election will happen in November, pitting former president Donald Trump against current vice-president Kamala Harris.

It's clear which of the two major party candidates people in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»want to see get elected in November.

While the election doesn't directly affect most people in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and Canada, the impact felt by the result of the American election will be big across the country, as the country and it's citizens are Canada's biggest trade partner, military ally, and visitor by a wide margin.

Earlier this summer the election saw a twist as the current president, Joe Biden, pulled his reelection bid and endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris. Meanwhile the Republican Party officially nominated former president Donald Trump, who's also fighting several law suits.

At the time of Biden's announcement, V.I.A. was running a poll asking readers who they'd prefer between Trump or Biden, or if neither were appealing.

The poll closed showing Biden had a significant lead over Trump (41 per cent for Biden compared to just 14 per cent for Trump). However, Biden was narrowly being beat by "neither" which had received more than 45 per cent of the vote.

In a previous poll, from February just between Trump and Biden, Biden won with almost 75 per cent of the support.

It seems the energy behind Harris has spread into Canada.

While Trump support in a new poll has nudged up slightly to 16 per cent (although that's within the margin of error), Harris has way more compared to Biden, who was already beating Trump handily.

Locally and overall, Harris has just under 70 per cent of V.I.A. readers. It appears she's drawn that support from the "neither" camp, as that option fell to about 16 per cent, more-or-less tying Trump.

That means just under seven out of 10 locals want to see Harris win.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» polled 1369 readers and asked the question: Who would you prefer become president of the U.S.A.?

The poll ran from 7/22/2024 to 7/31/2024. Of the 1369 votes, we can determine that 600 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Vice President Kamala Harris 67.67% local, 68.59% total
Former President Donald Trump 15.50% local, 16.07% total
Neither 16.83% local, 15.34% total
  Local   Total

Results are based on an online study of adult Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» readers that are located in Vancouver. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 2.65%, 19 times out of 20.
