District of North 麻豆传媒映画Fire and Rescue Services responded to a call about a fire in the brush behind the Phibbs Exchange bus loop off Orwell Street at 5 p.m. last night.
“When they attended, they put out the fire and upon examining the scene they discovered, unfortunately, that there was the body of a person,” said Sgt. Peter DeVries, North 麻豆传媒映画RCMP spokesman.
Fire crews contacted police as soon as the body was discovered, and the RCMP’s investigative team arrived on scene a short time later.
“It does look like this person was camped there, and they had been camped there for some time prior. We’re still making some inquiries to try and discover who this person was,” said DeVries. “They’re still in the early stages of the investigation.”
The BC Coroner’ Service has been called in to help determine an exact cause of death.
Police do not suspect foul play in the tragic incident, said DeVries.
