Police are announcing the arrest of a man suspected in the death of a Kitsilano senior.
"Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police have arrested a suspect in the killing of Justus Daniel, the beloved caretaker of Tatlow Park who was found murdered in his west-side home last December," states the VPD in a press release.
Daniel was found dead on Dec. 10, 2021, in his home near West 3rd Avenue and MacDonald Street.
“After a painstaking review of all evidence, investigators identified a 51-year-old suspect. He was arrested without incident Saturday afternoon and has since been charged with murder," says Inspct. Dale Weidman, officer in charge of the major crime section.
Weidman thanked the public for help in the case.
"Without them this case would not have been solved," he says.
The B.C. Prosecution Service has charged Kitsilano resident Brent Steven White in the case. He faces one charge of second-degree murder and remains in custody.
The two were casual acquaintances, Weidman says, but not friends. The motive and specific cause of death are not being released at this time, he adds, as the case is headed to court. White does not have a criminal background.
“This crime shocked the community and caused significant anxiety, in part because we could not immediately explain what happened or guarantee there was no on-going public safety risk,” adds Weidman. “We hope this arrest begins to restore a sense of safety that some had lost, and that more answers will soon be given through the court process.”
