One man has been charged after several incidents involving a stolen taxicab on Jan. 16.
The series of events started around 7:00 a.m. according to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin, when the cab was stolen at Main and Terminal streets. It had briefly been left running and unattended.
The stolen cab was then involved in a hit-and-run at Broadway and Kingsway involving a Tesla.
From there the driver headed south.
"The driver then made it to Fraser and 37th Ave where a pedestrian was struck," states Visintin. "VPD officers stopped the taxi at Main St. and Marine Dr."
"One police officer was injured and has been taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries."
Both the 22-year-old pedestrian and the police officer were taken to hospital.
Charles Disher is now facing multiple charges including one count of theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a vehicle. He remains in custody, according to the VPD.
Disher, 44, is currently facing previous and unrelated charges for mischief, resisting a peace officer, and multiple incidents of theft under $5,000. He's also been found guilty of possession for the purpose of trafficking and theft under $5,000.
