After a man was spotted with a rifle Saturday night in Vancouver, one man was shot by police while a prolonged stand-off occurred with another suspect until early Sunday morning.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police were called to Princess Rooms, a social housing complex at 7 p.m. on Saturday, near Princess Avenue and Powell Street in Downtown Eastside, after someone spotted a man with a rifle.

“A call like this is very dynamic and challenging. Responding officers worked to gather the appropriate resources and ensure a safe resolution,” says Const. Tania Visintin, with the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department.

During the incident, a 32-year-old man exited a suite with a firearm. This prompted a member of the VPD's emergency response section to shoot the suspect. The man was then transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A second suspect, a 31-year-old man remained inside the same suite for several hours before police negotiated a safe resolution.

Both men are now facing firearm-related charges and police remained on-site Sunday as they continued to investigate. The Independent Investigations Office will also be investigating the incident.
