Nicholson Road is an ongoing photo project aimed at sharing and celebrating the different communities in Metro Vancouver.

Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», and you should get out and explore it!

Nicholson Road is an ongoing photo project aimed at sharing and celebrating the different communities in Metro Vancouver. Each week Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» will be featuring an image from the previous week, shot in one of the many 'hoods around town in order to draw your attention a little bit outside of the hyper-focus that we usually have on the City of Vancouver.

East Richmond, Richmond

One of the things I love about the low-lying agricultural areas around Metro Van, is the morning fog that lingers around, particularly late in the summer when the air has begun to hold a little more moisture. East Richmond is a great place to see this, while rolling through on the 91, or in my case, passing over on my way to YVR!

Similar to much of Surrey and Delta, the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) comprises 38% of the land within the City of Richmond. That works out to about 5,000 hectares, or a whole lot of cranberries (back in 2001, Richmond cranberry fields made up 47% of the provincial crop acreage). Behind cranberries, blueberries and hay are the other main crops, followed by potatoes, corn, strawberries, and of course pumpkins!

That's it for this week, but In case you're wondering: yep, that's Metrotown up on the hill in Burnaby, backed by Burnaby Mountain then Eagle Mountain, and topped off by the majestic peak of Coquitlam Mountain (up at 1600m/5200ft!).

Metro Vancouver, I love you.
