Leonard Colebert is like a lot of lottery winners in that he didn’t actually believe he had won.
Colebert says he likes to play the lottery and dream about purchasing a new car, and to his surprise his dream will come true after driving away with $75,000 from the BC/49 draw.
The New Westminster resident purchased the ticket from Save-On-Foods on 6th Street and was there when he found out he won.
“My first thought was it was a mistake,” he recalled. “I’d never seen that screen before so I thought it was advertising!”
The first person to find out about his win was his wife. “I didn’t tell her right away… I made her wait a little while. While laughing she asked why I didn’t tell her instantly but she was happy.”
Colebert says he prefers to purchase his lottery tickets at places where he is familiar with staff.
“As a matter of fact, I’ve been back to the same booth and they were happy when I told them I had won,” he exclaimed.
