From Motown to the Weeknd: New radio station launching in Vancouver

It'll start broadcasting on a frequency not used for a couple of years.

Just a couple of weeks after one of Vancouver's radio stations relaunched under a new brand, another new station will start broadcasting.

This time, it's , calling itself "Vancouver’s Coolest Vibe" in promotional material; it'll take to the airwaves July 18 starting at 8:30 a.m.

"WAVE 98.3 features a mix of smooth tunes, funky instrumentals, classic Motown and R&B as well as hits from today’s biggest stars like Michael Bublé, Adele
and The Weeknd," states the new station in a press release.

Personalities have been announced as well; Tara Jean Stevens will take mornings, Vickie Van Dyke is on middays and Danny Mags will have the afternoon commute. Evenings will be the purview of Gary James, from 6 p.m. to midnight. Shows from 'Downtown' Julie Brown and Dave Koz will round out Saturdays and Sundays.

The Wave is being launched by Durham Radio, an Oshawa-based broadcasting group with , including 94.7 the Wave based out of Hamilton. The sale of 98.3 FM was .

Previously, 98.3 FM was the home of CIRH-FM Roundhouse Radio, an independent station that shuttered in 2018. Since then, the frequency has been essentially unoccupied.
