The 鶹ýӳPolice Traffic Unit has clocked an "N" driver speeding over double the speed limit next to a park and elementary school.

Inspector 1507 Anderson, an Inspector with 鶹ýӳPolice, tweeted about the driver on Nov. 4. He notes that the driver was travelling 142 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. In addition, he remarks that officers likely prevented a deadly crash that would have been caused by the drivers "foolish speed."

He adds that the vehicle was impounded by the Collision Investigation.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act Section 148(1), this driver would be charged with excessive speeding since he was driving over 60 km/h above the limit. This would result in a fine of at least $483 and three penalty points.

Throughout the month of November, The VPD Traffic Unit is focusing on pedestrian safety. During the fall and winter months, visibility on the roads declines due to shorter daylight hours. As such, VPD recommend that pedestrians wear bright and reflective clothing so that drivers can see them.
