The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Board of Parks and Recreation is announcing a series of changes coming to transportation through the city's most famous park.

A phased approach is being taken through the spring and summer as more users head to the park, especially on bikes.

"The interim plan features separated lanes for bikes and cars on Stanley Park Drive," states the board in a press release.

They explain the plan is based on feedback from the public and concerns about safe access during the pandemic. The decision was made on March 21; a timeline was released today.

Starting in mid-May a designated bike line will be installed to keep vehicles and cyclists apart in the section of Stanley Park Drive between Pipeline Road North and Second Beach. Signs will be installed to direct traffic. During this period the Seawall will remain open for cyclists.

Staff will review the situation along Stanley Park Drive from the intersection of North Lagoon Drive, Stanley Park Drive and Pipeline Road South to the intersection with pipeline Road North in mid-June.

In mid-July a more robust, concrete barrier will be installed along Stanley Park Drive between Pipeline Road North and Second Beach. At the same time more barriers will be put in for the whole length of Stanley Park Drive, with intersections at Prospect Point Café, Third Beach, Ferguson Point and to the causeway.

A long term strategy is ongoing.
