Mom with baby victims of stranger assault in Surrey, police seek witnesses

The alleged assault happened while they were waiting to cross the road.

Surrey RCMP is hoping the public can help after a woman and her one-year-old child were assaulted.

The incident happened Dec. 15, 2021 around 11:17 a.m, according to a police press release.

The woman was with her baby waiting to cross the road near the FreshCo at 7474 120 St. in the Newton area when the man approached and assaulted the pair.

"The man, who is unknown to both victims, allegedly uttered threats and then assaulted the mother and child. Bystanders held the man until police arrived and arrested him," state the Surrey RCMP.

The mother and child were not physically injured in the incident but were very emotionally distressed according to police.

The man was held in custody and a report has been sent to the B.C. Prosecution Service, but police are still looking for witnesses to the incident. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 1-604-599-0502.
