It didn't run away, right?

This little dog statue in the fountain at Laurel and 7th has mysteriously disappeared.

Often when dogs go missing, it's because they ran away.

This is probably not the case with the little dog that lived in the fountain at the Laurel Landbridge Park.

The little dog is a statue in the Fairview park; or was, since it has gone missing, feared stolen from its seat in the middle of the fountain.

"Park Board staff are aware that the dog statue in Laurel Landbridge Park’s fountain is missing and we believe it may have been taken by someone," a parks board spokesperson tells V.I.A. "Staff are currently reviewing options to replace the statue, but this is still in the early stages of discussion."

The missing dog hasn't been reported to the police, yet, while staff are still investigating it themselves.

When asked about the history of the little dog and where it came from, the spokesperson noted that's part of what they're investigating.

On Google Maps Street View, the dog seems to have appeared in its little fountain in late 2020. It's not in images from October 2020 (or any prior to that) but it is in images from December 2020. Over the past couple of years, it became a popular sight in the fountain, even getting dressed up for some holidays.

Parks staff are in the early stages of looking at options and costs for replacement, says the spokesperson.
