A Surrey couple say that despite winning a "life-changing amount of money," in the B.C. lottery they'll be the same people.
Robert and Marie Beaulieu won big on the Sept. 11 Lotto 6/49 draw, with a huge $5 million prize.
"This is going to change the way we live, but it won’t change us as people," said Marie Beaulieu in a press release issued by BCLC.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes after I scanned it on the app,” added Robert Beaulieu. “When I woke up Marie she asked if it was actually $5 million, there were so many zeros.”
While the couple have spent decades in B.C., they're already in the process of moving to their hometown of Montreal. They've already purchased a house, which is being renovated.
“I told my brother who’s leading the renovation that we have room to expand the renovation a little bit,” Marie said. “There’s going to be an in-ground pool now and we’re definitely adding a garage!”
They may be going bigger on their renovations, but the money won't change who they are, Marie added.
“Robert went to McDonald’s for breakfast this morning, and I got upset because I forgot to give him the coupons,” she described.
It will change one thing, though. Marie expects to be able to support her children and live a more stress-free life.
