A 23-year-old 鶹ýӳman is facing a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Kyle Vincent Gabriel.

鶹ýӳpolice announced Friday morning that Yasin Rashid has been formally charged in the alleged homicide in the city’s West End last month.

Officers were called to 1125 Pendrell St. shortly after 8 p.m. on Sept. 10 after an “incident” between two men. Gabriel, 29, was found injured inside the residence. He was taken to hospital but later died.

Rashid was arrested about 24 hours later near Pendrell and Thurlow streets.

“During the apprehension, he did fight with police officers by taking out a knife and fighting with them,” VPD media relations officer Sgt. Aaron Roed told the Courier following the arrest.

Police used beanbag rounds and a police dog in making the arrest.

Charges of assaulting a police officer and assaulting a police service dog, related to the arrest, have been recommended to Crown counsel. Rashid has been in police custody since his arrest and was scheduled to make a brief court appearance Friday morning.

This was Vancouver’s seventh homicide of the year. There were 15 homicides in 鶹ýӳlast year, 19 in 2017 and 12 in 2016.
