After three people were stabbed in downtown Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»last week, a single charge of aggravated assault has been levied against a suspect.
Jeronimo Fuentes, 29, is facing the charge, according to the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department (VPD); he's currently in police custody.
Fuentes has one previous conviction for assault stemming from an incident in September 2023.
The stabbing for which Fuentes is currently charged occurred around 10 p.m. on July 22. Police officers responded to reports a 32-year-old man had been stabbed in the back on Nelson Street near Hornby Street, according to a press release from the VPD.
"Officers arrived on scene immediately and provided first aid to the victim until paramedics took him to hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries," added the VPD.
Police note the victim and suspect don't appear to have known each other.
Two other people were stabbed around the same time in the same area: at 9:40 p.m. a 33-year-old man was stabbed on Granville near Nelson streets, then a 41-year-old man was stabbed minutes later at Davie and Granville streets.
A suspect was arrested at the time by VPD officers.
Police have not announced charges regarding the two other attacks.
"The other two stabbings are still under investigation," Const. Tania Visintin tells V.I.A.
