A rainfall warning is in effect for Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»as an intense frontal system rapidly approaches the south coast.
Environment Canada issued the warning early in the morning on Wednesday, Jan. 22, noting that rain, at times heavy, is expected. Moderate rain is expected to start near mid day and become heavy at times later tonight.
East Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»Island near Bowser is expected to see the most rainfall, with the forecast calling for 80 to 100 mm of rain before it eases Thursday morning.
The storm is expected to bring up to 80 mm of rain to the Howe Sound, the North Shore, and the northeast and central Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»regions. However, the heavy rainfall is expected to ease by mid day Thursday.
Rainfall warning in effect for:
- Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»- central including the City of Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»Burnaby and New Westminster
- Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»- North Shore including West Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»and North Vancouver
- Metro Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»- northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
After Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»received a staggering 34 cm of snowfall in five days last week, this week's forecast is calling for seven straight days of rainfall.
