Sunshine Coast RCMP say a 62-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving and could also face charges of mischief after the van he was driving flipped on its side and slid into the Langdale Ferry Terminal toll booths Saturday evening.
According to RCMP, at about 7:30 p.m. the van, with two people inside, came through the intersection just before the booths at high speed and flipped when the driver tried to stop. It came to rest wedged between the two booths.
Neither the driver nor his passenger suffered serious injuries.
Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries told Coast Reporter that the toll booth attendant was not hurt, and there was no damage to booths.
Marshall said the incident occurred between sailings, and the terminal entrance had to be closed while emergency crews dealt with the vehicle and worked to clean up a gasoline spill.
The incident didn’t cause any major delays. Marshall said the 8:55 p.m. sailing left at 8:58 p.m.
RCMP are continuing their investigation.
