A memorial vandalized on Christmas Eve has left many on social media angry and dismayed that someone would commit such a heartless act.

The memorial, near the Ladner Save-On-Foods, was for Rita Gensow, a member of Ladner’s homeless community, who passed away on March 1.

“I'm absolutely disappointed in whoever destroyed all the Christmas things that were in the planter where there was Rita's memorial,” wrote Candi McCallum-Kirkbride on the Ladner’s Landing Facebook group.

Other residents chimed in as well on the Ladner’s Landing page expressing their disappointment, anger and frustration.

On Boxing Day, the area was cleaned up and a few of the items were restored in the memorial.

Delta police confirmed with the Optimist Friday afternoon that the vandalism was reported to police and a file has been started. DPD say they have no suspects at this time.

Anyone who might have information about the vandalism can call Delta police at 604-946-4411.
