The August Market is closing for good on Oct. 31, 2021.

After six years on Main Street, The August Market will be shutting its doors permanently at the end of the month.

Store owner Gogan Shottha posted a video on Instagram highlighting the reasons for the decision to shutter the store, which is located at 3958 Main St.

While many businesses these days are citing COVID-19 as a prime factor in shutting down, Shottha candidly speaks about his own reasons for closing.

"I take full responsibility for the store closing. It was my inexperience," he says. "It wasn't a very sound financial business decision (on opening)."

He goes on to talk about his work-life balance.

"Businesses, in a very real way, exist to make money and life, in a very real way, is meant to be enjoyed," he says. "I'm not necessarily doing either of those things as much as I'd like to with the store in my life."

He notes that when he started the business being buried in work was something he wanted, but things have changed.

"I think it's time to make some changes," he adds.

The August Market sells a variety of items, including locally-made, plant-based, or gluten-free foods. The shop is offering its remaining stock at a discount for shoppers.

The store's last day will be Sunday, Oct. 31.
