Images: Huge twin tower development proposed for southeast Vancouver

The Joyce-Collingwood skyline might be getting a little taller.

Yet another tower is being proposed for the Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood.

Actually, they're twins.

A development with a 34-storey east tower and a 30-storey west for 3362 Vanness Ave., not far from the Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain station. The two towers will be among the tallest in the neighbourhood, though two other nearby tower developments will be slightly taller.

The two towers, designed by Vancouver's , would be connected by a 60 ft. podium.

Currently there are several buildings on the property the development is proposed for, including a 12-storey residential tower and several townhomes. The site wasn't initially considered for redevelopment, because the structures are relatively new, but the proposal suggests the tower is nearing the end of its "economic life" because of its poor construction.

"The [existing strata owners] are burdened with a building envelope issue that has been deemed a potential life-safety threat by the City of Vancouver," . It goes on to say the site either needs to be redeveloped or go through an expensive process.

The developer's development would see 689 residential units built in the growing community, adding more than 600 new units to the neighbourhood (when taking into account the loss of the units to be replaced). All the new units would be rental housing.

"The surrounding area is a growing community, but like the entire region, faced with housing challenges. Providing housing options for households of all income levels is critical to the social and economic health of the community," states the proposal, which is asking for the land to be rezoned.

Along with the new rental units, the street level will see new commercial space opened up. A 37-child daycare is also part of the proposal.
