A car set on fire in Port Moody Wednesday night (July 5) is a suspect vehicle in a fatal Coquitlam shooting from the Canada Day long weekend.
Police are now seeking video of a white Kia Niro that left the scene of and ended up torched in a parking lot near Rocky Point Park three days later.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called to the car fire today (July 6) after Port Moody police (PMPD) responded to the incident in the before 10 p.m. Wednesday.
After determining its make and model, officers that canvassed surveillance footage found the vehicle near the underground parkade of a Burquitlam condo tower on Sunday (July 2) where Karnvir Singh Garcha died of gunshot wounds.
The shooting that claimed the 25-year-old man's life was "isolated," IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Timothy Periotti said in an earlier statement.
B.C.'s homicide team said the Kia Niro arrived in the just after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and parked in a loading area at the top of the ramp leading into the parkade with its fog lights on.
It stayed there until 9:19 p.m. when Garcha was dropped off at the tower by a ride-sharing service, IHIT added, and the suspect driving the Kia returned to the vehicle and fled eastbound toward Emerson Street.
First responders performed live-saving measures after RCMP were called to in the Burquitlam neighbourhood, but Garcha succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
